The Rev. Stephen Singleton, M.Div.

   

The Reverend Stephen Singleton is a native of Charleston, South Carolina, the son of Christine Singleton and the late Nathaniel Singleton. He earned a Bachelors of Arts degree from the University of South Carolina, after matriculating at Allen University. He earned a Masters of Divinity degree at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. While pursuing his education, he served on the Executive Board of Student Christian Fellowship, and was a student participant with the South Carolina legislature on the National Day of Prayer. At SMU, he served as chair of the Student Seminarians, received the Karis Stahl (Stall) Fadley Scholarship and was the student advisor for the Oak Cliff - South Dallas Community task force.    

His occupational experience includes six years of counseling for the state of South Carolina, and was recognized as the facilitator of the "Case of the Year" for the South Carolina Commission for the Blind. He has written for several publications including The Coastal Times, The Upwith Herald, The Mustang, The Carolinian, and several journals of community and Christian interest. He has also hosted a radio talk show on WTMA - Radio in Charleston.    

Rev. Singleton has taught at Benedict College, Voorhees College, the Military Brig in Charleston, South Carolina and at Allen University. He served as chair of the Tri-County Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration in 1991 and has served as the South Carolina State chaplain for the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He was the keynote speaker for the 1990 South Carolina Gospel Music Workshop in Charleston, South Carolina. He also received recognition from the Urban League, and received the "Brother of the Year" award from Beta Kappa Lambda Chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.   

He has served as a pastor in the African Methodist Episcopal Church since 1988 - serving St. Stephen AME Church on Johns Island, South Carolina and Pine Grove AME Church in Columbia, South Carolina from 1992 to 2006. During his service at Pine Grove AME Church, the congregation tripled in membership and implemented twenty-five new and innovative ministries.    

Rev. Singleton serves on the AME Church's Board of Examiners and is a frequent teacher and lecturer for the AME Church's Christian Education project.    

His hobbies include golfing, writing and always continually learning and teaching. He lives with the understanding that "Kingdom Work" is never done. He is married to the former Ms. Lucille Hilton, and they have two children, Matthew and Kayla.
